Celebrating the transformative power of words.

WordXWord Festival [about]

The mission of WordXWord is to celebrate the transformative power of words – written, spoken and sung; to engage diverse groups in cutting-edge, live performances as both audience and participants; and to encourage the next generation of performers and writers through education and outreach.

The WordXWord Festival is a 8-day festival taking place at a variety of venues in a compact area in downtown Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Venues range from store fronts to stages, studios to street corners, and rooftops to restaurants. The proximity and variety of venues serves to facilitate unexpected encounters, in a disarming context.

Under the umbrella WXW365, the WordXWord Festival offers programs year round including the weekly Writers Room, frequent Songwriter presentations, the 30/30 Poetry Challenge in April, and the annual week-long festival in August.

WordXWord was founded in 2009 by entrepreneur and creative thinker, Jim Benson. Over the course of the first three years of the festival, over 100 artists/groups have participated in performances presented at 20+ venues.

In addition to the many dozens of local and regional artists who have been presented, numerous nationally and internationally recognized artists have been introduced to western Massachusetts including several world-class Slam poets whose work is rarely available to audiences outside of major urban areas.
